Itinerary
Day 1 – Washington DC – Illuminated Monuments & Memorials Tour
Arrive in Washington DC late this afternoon and check into your area hotel for a two-night stay. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant followed by a Illuminated Monuments & Memorials Driving Tour. Washington’s grand buildings, memorials, and monuments sparkle during the day, but in the evening, they are illuminated, soft, focusing the solid stones and bronzes. Fountains and water features shimmer in reflection, shadows darken highlighting the floodlit detail. Monuments and Memorials you will see include: the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial Park, the Air Force Memorial, the Washington Monument, the National World War II Memorial and more if time permits. (D)
Day 2 – Arlington National Cemetery Tourmobile – Afternoon at Smithsonian Museums – Dinner at Tony & Joe’s – Shear Madness Performance
This morning after breakfast, enjoy a tourmobile ride through Arlington National Cemetery. The most famous cemetery in the country, is the final resting place for many of our nation’s greatest heroes, including more than 300,000 veterans of every American conflict, from the Revolutionary War to Iraq and Afghanistan. Since its founding in 1866, Arlington National Cemetery has provided a solemn place to reflect upon the sacrifices made by the men and women of the United States Armed Forces in the name of our country.
Next, enjoy lunch on own and an afternoon for the Smithsonian Museums of your choice. You can decide which interests you the most and can visit Air & Space, the American Indian, Natural History, American History and more.
Dinner is included this evening at Tony & Joe’s in Georgetown. If you’re in the mood for fresh delicacies from the sea, dive into Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place at the Georgetown Waterfront. While enjoying tempting dishes, you have spectacular views of the Potomac River, Kennedy Center, Washington Monument, Roosevelt Island, and the Key Bridge.
After dinner, enjoy a performance of Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Shear Madness is the interactive comedy whodunit that lets the audience solve the crime! Set in present-day Georgetown, Shear Madness engages locals and visitors alike as armchair detectives to help solve the scissor-stabbing murder of a famed concert pianist who lives above the Shear Madness unisex hairstyling salon. The show combines up-to-the-minute improvisational humor and a mixture of audience sleuthing to deliver a unique performance each night. (B,D)
Day 3 – Morning of Washington DC Sightseeing – Free Time at Union Station – Depart for Home
This morning after breakfast, meet your local guide for a tour of Washington DC. You will see all the famous sights surrounding the National Mall including the White House, U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, Union Station and more.
Stop at Union Station for free time and lunch on own. There many dining options at Union Station including several restaurants and a food court. There are also shopping opportunities available.
Depart for home this afternoon. (B)
