Itinerary

Day 1 – Washington DC – Afternoon at Smithsonian Museums

Arrive in Washington DC in time for lunch on own. You will also have a free afternoon to enjoy the Smithsonian Museums of your choice. Visit Air & Space, the American Indian, Natural History, American History, the new National Museum of African American History and Culture and more.

Then you check into your area Washington DC hotel for a three night stay. Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2 – “In God We Trust”  DC Tour – Illuminated Monuments Tour

This morning, you meet a local guide for an “In God We Trust” tour of Washington DC. Your guide will lead you on a story of American Christian foundations through some of our nation’s most notable monuments and buildings containing the declaration that the source of our birth, liberty and greatness is God.

Within the Great Hall of the Jefferson Building, you will see the Gutenberg Bible and the Giant Bible of Mainz. The display of these bibles is appropriate; in the words of President Andrew Jackson, “The Bible is the rock upon which our republic rests.” Also, in the main reading room are statues and quotes about Moses and Paul representing religion.

Next, visit the Supreme Court Building where the biblical foundation of the law is evidenced throughout the building. On the east side is a marble statue of Moses holding tablets containing the Ten Commandments.

Then you visit the Capitol Building where the Rotunda presents aspects of Christian history including the baptism of Pocahontas. Enjoy lunch on own today at the Capitol.

The afternoon features a visit to the National Archives. Here you will see a bronze design on the floor of the Rotunda which contains the Ten Commandments. You will also see the Declaration of Independence which contains such ideas as: “man is created in the Divine Image,” “all men are created equal,” and “man is superior to the state.”

Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant. Following dinner, you will enjoy an Illuminated Monuments Tour to include stops at the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts and Iwo Jima. (B,D)

Day 3 – “Tour of Faith and Nation” – Washington National Cathedral – Museum of the Bible – Illuminated Monuments

This morning after breakfast at the hotel, you meet your local guide for a “Tour of Faith and Nation.” Start with a stop at the White House Visitors Center where all Presidents have taken their Oath of Office with their hand upon the Bible and enjoy a photo opportunity.

Next, you visit the Jefferson Memorial. Thomas Jefferson, America’s third president, held a Biblical world-view which is reflected in the inscriptions here.

Then you tour the Washington National Cathedral, a spiritual resource for our nation. It is a great and beautiful edifice in the city of Washington, an indispensable ministry for people of all faiths and perspectives, and a sacred place for our country in times of celebration, crisis, and sorrow.

Next, you will spend the rest of the afternoon at the Museum of the Bible. The 430,000-square-foot museum.  It is the most technologically advanced museum in the world providing guests with an immersive and personalized experience as they explore the history, narrative, and impact of the Bible. 

Dinner is included tonight at a local restaurant. Tonight, you enjoy a second evening of Illuminated Monument touring. Memorials included this evening are the World War II Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. (B,D)

Day 4 – Shrine of Immaculate Conception – Franciscan Monastery – Depart for Home

This morning you tour the Shrine of Immaculate Conception. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Roman Catholic Church in the United States and North America, and is one of the ten largest churches in the world.

Designated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a National Sanctuary of Prayer and Pilgrimage, the Basilica is the nation’s preeminent Marian shrine, dedicated to the patroness of the United States—the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of the Immaculate Conception. It is oftentimes affectionately referred to as America’s Catholic Church.

Next, you will visit the Franciscan Monastery. It is the U.S. home of the Holy Land Friars who, for 800 years, have cared for the sacred shrines and the Christians in the Holy Land. Visit the monastery to explore the full-size replicas of Holy Land shrines, beautiful church and contemplative gardens.

After your visit, depart for home. (B)
