Itinerary
Day 1 – Lafayette, IN
Arrive today in Lafayette, IN where you enjoy a three-night stay at a local hotel.
Tonight, enjoy dinner and tour at the Lafayette Brewing Company. It was the first brewery to receive Indiana’s small brewers permit and currently the 2nd oldest operating brewery in the state. Enjoy a variety of beer or root beer or other sodas made on site as well as a full array of menu choices. (D)
Day 2 – Purdue University Tour – Haan Museum of Indiana Art – Inspired Fire Glass Studio – Catered Dinner & Howl with the Wolf Pack
Start the day with a guided riding tour of Purdue University. Purdue is home to students from all 50 states and nearly 130 countries, making this Midwestern university a leader in change and innovation. The university was established and founded by John Purdue in 1869 and originally had colleges for science, technology, and agriculture. Since then, Purdue has grown to 10 colleges with 207 majors.
Lunch is included today at Nine Irish Brothers, a traditional Irish pub.
Next, tour the Haan Museum of Indiana Art. The Haan is home to artwork by historic and contemporary Indiana artists, including an impressive collection of works by TC Steele and the Hoosier Group. It’s all displayed in a historic mansion that was built in 1904 for the St. Louis World’s Fair. The collection also includes antique American Renaissance Revival furniture from the 1860s. Outside you can explore the Sculpture Garden and hike on our wooded nature trail behind the museum.
The afternoon also features a visit to the Inspired Fire Glass Studio and Gallery. This is a fully operational studio where the group will enjoy a demonstration and tour of the studio.
End the day at the Wolf Park for a catered dinner and a chance to Howl with the Wolf Pack. Wolf Park is dedicated to behavioral research, education and conservation of wolves. As the night falls and the air cools, the wolves grow lively. Learn how wolves communicate, both through their “trademark” behavior – the howl, and through body language. Wolf Park staff members will join the wolves midway through the program to demonstrate how the animal curators communicate with the wolves through positive reinforcement training and reading body language. You are encouraged to howl along as the wolves serenade the park. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – SAMARA – Prophetstown State Park – The Farm at Prophetstown – Tippecanoe Battlefield & Museum – Wabash & Erie Canal Park and Interpretive Center with Catered Dinner
This morning visit SAMARA, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed masterpiece and one of the most complete homes in the architect’s style. The John and Catherine Christian House, commonly known as SAMARA, was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2015. The name is derived from the winged seeds found in pinecones.
Next, visit Prophetstown State Park. Indiana’s newest state park, Prophetstown is located where the Tippecanoe River meets the Wabash near the town of Battle Ground northeast of Lafayette. The park’s landscape has been shaped by ice from glaciers, moving water, fire, and human hands that helped maintain the vast tall prairie grass. Native American people hunted and lived along the two rivers for thousands of years. You also visit The Farm at Prophetstown, and discover 1920s farm lifestyles, Native American culture and take a stroll through 900 acres of restored prairie.
Lunch is included today at TC’s Restaurant & Tavern. This local favorite is known for their steaks, ribs, BBQ and Hoosier favorite – Breaded Tenderloins.
Then stop at the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum. This National Historic Landmark is the site of the Battle of Tippecanoe, where William Henry Harrison’s troops fought Tecumseh’s warriors in 1811 and is considered the first shots fired in the War of 1812. An 85-foot marble obelisk monument was erected in 1908 and marks the site of the November 7, 1811, Battle of Tippecanoe between the United States’ forces, led by William Henry Harrison and representatives of Tecumseh’s Native American confederation. The Tippecanoe Battlefield Museum focuses on the battle, early settlement and nineteenth century Native American life styles.
Late afternoon, visit the Wabash and Erie Canal Park and Interpretive Center where you’ll discover canal heritage and natural beauty. Take a ride on the replica canal boat, tour the restored 1844 home, visit the award-winning interpretive museum, explore the pioneer village and enjoy a catered meal like you would have had on the canal in the 1800s.
Return to Lafayette for the night. (B,L,D)
