Itinerary
Today, travel with Anderson Coach to Mansfield, OH. First stop is a tour of the Ohio State Reformatory. Walk the same halls as history’s most infamous prisoners. Immerse yourself into the foundation that formed The Shawshank Redemption. Whether you’re hunting for the paranormal or simply looking to tour the beautiful architecture, you can find it here at the Ohio State Reformatory.
With the cornerstone laid in 1886, this castle-like prison was designed as a reformatory for young offenders. Five major motion pictures have been filmed on location including “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Air Force One.” Abandoned in 1990, the original cell-blocks and administration areas remain intact.
Do time in the Shawshank Museum where you’ll immerse yourself in props, set pieces, costumes, and other treasures involved in the movie. And bring home souvenirs from the Museum Store, so you can relive your visit to the cherished movie site.
Dinner is also included this evening at a local restaurant.
Then visit the Kingwood Center Gardens for their annual Great Pumpkin Glow. Kingwood Center is a magnificent estate built in 1926 by the highly successful late industrialist Charles Kelly King. King made his fortune leading the Ohio Brass Company into new ventures, becoming President and Chairman of the Board. After his death, King left the massive estate to the foundation that continues to operate Kingwood Center today.
There are over 2,000 lit pumpkins, harvest decorations and more throughout the gardens. Come and enjoy an evening of fall activities, live music, food trucks, Scarecrow Row, the Greenhouse Glow, an Enchanted Forest, and Kingwood’s famous glowing pumpkin path!
