Itinerary
Day 1 – National Harbor, MD – Gaylord National Resort – Free Evening on the Harbor
Arrive today in National Harbor, MD for a two night stay at the Gaylord National Resort. Perched on the shores of the Potomac River and just minutes from downtown Washington, D.C., this stylish resort offers convenient access to National Harbor, Maryland’s most beloved attractions, including the Capital Wheel, TopGolf, MGM National Harbor, and Tanger Outlets, and an exciting line-up of family-friendly summer activities & entertainment.
The Gaylord National Resort recently underwent a $64 million dollar renovation. With brand-new redesigned, luxurious guest room & suites, the signature Pose Rooftop bar and lounge experience. The hotel also offers events like ICE! each holiday season.
Enjoy a free evening and dinner on own tonight at the National Harbor. This waterfront area is a destination unlike any other. It is home to 160 stores, 40 restaurants, an iconic Capital Wheel and the best sunsets in the D.C. area. Trolley services regularly operate from the Gaylord to the area’s attractions. National Harbor also offers events like Holidays at the Harbor.
Be sure to check out the newest addition to National Harbor, Spirit Park, a modern tribute to the soul and spirit of the American flag. Featuring one of the largest American flags in the region, unforgettable design elements, inspirational art and patriotic details all serve to honor our nation’s tapestry and the history of all people who walk beneath its colors.
Day 2 – Old Town Alexandria – Washington DC Tour – Eisenhower Memorial – Clara Burton Museum – Portraits of US Presidents – Illuminated Monuments Tour Option
After breakfast at the resort, board a Water Taxi for Old Town Alexandria, VA. Here you meet your local guide for a tour of the area. Founded in 1749 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Alexandria offers the best of the Greater Washington Metropolitan area. Just a few minutes from Washington, D.C. and George Washington’s Mount Vernon, experience history where it happened.
Then enjoy some free time for lunch own and shopping. In Old Town, you have endless options along and near King Street, a nationally designated historic district, recognized as one of the “Great Streets” of America. Explore dozens of independently owned restaurants and boutiques.
This afternoon, depart for Washington DC on your motorcoach. Enjoy a narrated tour of DC with a stop at the NEW Eisenhower Memorial. Designed by world-renowned architect Frank O. Gehry, this one-of-a-kind memorial and urban park is located near the U.S. Capitol along Independence Avenue, S.W.
Afternoon touring will also include the Clara Barton Office of Missing Soldiers Museum and The Official Portraits of the US Presidents. Discover how Clara Barton, her friends, and her colleagues pulled together to make a difference on the battlefield and in the aftermath of the American Civil War.
Then see the Official Portraits of the US Presidents at the National Portraits Gallery. The nation’s only complete collection of presidential portraits outside the White House, this exhibition lies at the heart of the Portrait Gallery’s mission to tell the American story through the individuals who have shaped it.
Tonight, dinner is included at a local restaurant. Groups have the option of adding an Illuminated Monuments Tour after dinner. Under a moonlit sky, experience the majestic views of our Nation’s renowned treasures. While Washington’s monuments and memorials are impressive during the day, they’re absolutely stunning at night! Day 3 – Arlington National Cemetery – Depart for Home
After breakfast this morning, take the tourmobile through Arlington National Cemetery. It is an impressive sight, with seemingly endless rows of simple white headstones. Imposing stones and monuments mark the graves of many individuals or groups. After your tour, depart for home. (B)
