Itinerary
Day 1 – Shipshewana, IN – Blue Gate Garden Inn – Dinner & Theatre
Arrive today in Shipshewana, IN where you check into the Blue Gate Garden Inn. Located in the heart of Indiana Amish Country, this resort-type hotel is your home for the next two nights.
This evening, enjoy a family-style dinner and show at the Blue Gate. The Blue Gate is best place for evening entertainment in Shipshewana and is fast becoming a household name in the Midwest, featuring over 280 shows per year with 75 different performers, 3 hit musicals and much more. (D)
Day 2 – “My Amish Life” Full Day Guided Tour – Cinnamon Roll Make & Take – Haystack Lunch – Amish Buggy Ride – Amish Wedding Feast
Today, enjoy a guided “My Amish Life” Tour. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to run a household without electricity or live without owning a car? Hear the story of the Amish from the Amish themselves. Start off your day with a warm cinnamon roll and coffee while you learn how Elaine makes this yummy pastry.
Tour country roads more traveled by buggies than cars. Visit a buggy maker and a family of baskets makers to learn how they earn a living with these self-taught skills. Also included today will be an authentic Amish Buggy Ride.
Enjoy a popular Amish fundraiser meal, the Haystack Meal. After lunch we’ll go back to school, one room that is, where you’ll visit with an Amish teacher. If you’ve been a good “scholar” you’ll go home with a yummy treat for a sweet end to your day. Delight in scenic backroads, peaceful people and local products that make Amish Country so memorable.
Tonight, enjoy an Amish Wedding Feast. It’s a once of a lifetime experience feasting on a traditional Amish wedding dinner in the charming setting of “The Carriage House”. Elaine and her son Seth explain what an Amish wedding day is like complete with this special meal that would be traditionally served by the Amish to their wedding guests. Groups see an Amish bride’s wedding dress up close and hear the customary German Wedding song sung at an Amish wedding. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Fair Oaks, IN – Fair Oaks Farm – Farming Adventures – Farm-to-Table Dinner – Ice Cream Party
This morning travel to Fair Oaks, IN where you visit Fair Oaks Farm, located between Chicago and Indianapolis. There’s no better place on Earth to learn about and experience modern farming than Fair Oaks Farms. Visit The Crop Adventure to learn how they are feeding 7 billion people and counting. See the future of Dairy Farming in the Robotic Dairy. Learn all about raising pigs in The Pig Adventure. There is so much to see at Fair Oaks Farm.
Visit the Dairy Adventure and learn about sustainability, aspects of the dairy farm, cow nutrition, and the safety and nutrition of milk in these exciting exhibits. See the Dairy Adventure 4D movie featuring Diva Mooreau! Let Diva take you on a divine tour of her everyday life here at Fair Oaks Farms. From her luxurious bedding to a full spa retreat, she enjoys every minute here on the farm.
You can also visit the Birthing Barn. Fair Oaks Farms experiences between 80 to 100 calves born every day! Step inside this unique birthing facility known as the Birthing Barn! With stadium seating, you will have the opportunity to witness the miracle of life right before your very eyes! Watch closely as each baby learns how to walk. It’s an amazing experience you won’t want to miss.
At the Pig Adventure you explore a modern pig farm, see how they use technology for better farming & see a newborn piglet up close. Get the opportunity to see a baby pig up close. Some of the newborns that you will get to see will only be 5 minutes old. Check out how quickly they learn to walk and have the opportunity to ask the farmers questions about the farm. There is also the Pork Education Center featuring a 3-story ropes course, a custom treehouse and an interactive Pigtrest Board where you can learn about safe, delicious pork recipes. The Pork Education Center is where you will board the pig bus to visit the working pig farm.
At the Crop Adventure explore from seed to feed. Learn all about modern crop farming practices, the importance of our soil and the future of farming in order to feed 7 billion people and counting. This is your chance to learn about The Future of Farming. With limited resources, learn all about how we are contributing to feeding the ever-growing population. Watch a floating globe movie and learn how much farming has changed through the decades and where it’s headed next.
In the Garden at Fair Oaks Farms you learn the history of pollination. Walking among the collection of crops and flowering plants, you’ll learn about the vital role that pollination plays in agriculture, ecosystems, and supporting our food supply by helping thousands of flowering plants to reproduce, improve biodiversity, and provide benefits to farmers.
At the end of the day, check into the Fairfield Inn by Marriott here at the farm, for an overnight stay. In a beautiful contemporary barn, this one-of-a-kind hotel is filled with custom art and upgrades all celebrating the American countryside of Fair Oaks Farms. Dinner this evening is included at the Farmhouse Restaurant at Fair Oaks Farms. Enjoy a savory farm-to-table meal with fresh ingredients. End the evening with an Ice Cream Party with homemade ice cream made right on the farm. (D)
