Itinerary
Day 1 – Friday – Flemington, NJ
Arrive today in Flemington, NJ where you enjoy a two-night stay at a local hotel. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2 – Saturday – Northlandz – Black River & Western Railroad Train Ride – Hunterdon Hills Playhouse Dinner Show
Today starts with a visit to Northlandz, the world’s largest miniature wonderland. This miniature wonderland is the home to the world’s largest model railroads recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. Built by artist and model train enthusiast Bruce Williams Zaccagnino, the amusement park spreads over 16 acres of land with over thousands of one-man hand-crafted miniature structures. From a replica of the iconic landmarks to a fully operational model railroad, Northlandz has something for everyone.
There is so much to enjoy here. Start with the Miniature Wonderland. What looks like a tiny world from afar is an intricate network of surprises, designed to delight & inspire! You’ll find a huge variety of detailed miniature art, from replicas of real-world landmarks to fantastical structures straight out of your dreams! Spanning acres, this jaw-dropping display features hundreds of structures, bridges, and tunnels, as well as countless complex details that will leave you marveling at the artistry on display. Imagined & built single-handedly by Bruce Williams Zaccagnino, this wonderland is a 35+ years old ultimate one-of-a-kind art piece.
Northlandz is the world’s largest model railroad, measuring over 8 miles of perfectly scaled model trains & locomotives winding through miniature mountains, forests, tunnels & much more! Northlandz Model Railroad Museum is featured in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ for its largest miniature railroad track in the world. This record-breaking place is a sight to behold. Feels like the magic has been captured and bottled up for your full gratification!
While at Northlandz, enjoy a ride on an 1890s Steam Engine Replica Outdoor Train for a fun-filled experience. The New Jersey Train winds its way through the picturesque grounds of the Southern Raritan River and neighborhood, passing over multiple bridges & junctions and through a long tunnel, giving riders the huge panorama to enjoy the scenery as they chug along!
After a break for lunch on your own, the afternoon features a scenic ride on the Black River & Western Railroad. Depart from the Flemington Station and climb aboard one of the vintage train coaches and experience the picturesque views of Hunterdon County. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, such as deer and birds, who live in the woods we travel through (it is the Garden State, after all!).
On board the train, you’ll cross the 3rd Neshanic Trestle, and as the train slows down, you can enjoy the scenic view forty feet above the river. See Hog Town, the station that once upon a time housed the “neighborhood delinquents” while they weren’t busy participating in the Great Train Robbery. This is just the beginning of the magical sights you’ll see that make Hunterdon County one of the most incredible places to live and visit in the state and the entire world.
End the day with a dinner show at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, New Jersey’s Premier Dinner Theatre. The Playhouse features energetic performances ranging from Broadway shows and comedies, to vibrant musicals, special music events, and more. Plus, delicious, freshly prepared, table-served cuisine and a famous dessert buffet. (B,D)
