Itinerary
Day 1 – Hilton Head Island – Six Night Stay
Arrive today in Hilton Head Island, SC. Enjoy a six-night stay at a local hotel. Dinner is on your own this evening.
Day 2 – Coastal Discovery Center – Harbour Town Yacht Basin – Harbour Town Lighthouse – Dolphin Cruise – Crazy Crab Dinner
This morning, visit the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. This majestic visitor friendly venue consists of salt marshes, open fields, stands of centuries old live oak trees, the State’s largest Southern Red Cedar tree dated at 1595, and a collection of some of the oldest buildings that exist on Hilton Head Island.
Next, head to the Harbour Town Yacht Basin for free time and lunch on own. Surrounding The Sea Pines Resort’s picturesque yacht basin, Harbour Town features an extraordinary selection of fine apparel and home décor boutiques, custom gift and craft shops, signature jewelry shops, and one-of-a-kind art galleries. You’ll also find a variety of top-rated restaurants and casual outdoor cafes serving fresh seafood, and more.
Visit the Harbour Town Lighthouse, a museum-like setting offering you the opportunity to explore the rich history of the island as you climb the steps of the iconic candy cane-striped structure. Learn about the role of the Coast Guard in its newest exhibit, along with fun facts about Hilton Head Island. The museum also features a fascinating collection of memorabilia from the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing and artifacts from the island’s historic eras, including the Civil War.
Once you’ve reached the top of the lighthouse, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Lowcountry and the island’s most elevated shopping experience at the Top of the Lighthouse Shoppe.
This afternoon, enjoy a Dolphin Cruise aboard the Vagabond. Travel south through Calibogue Sound to the head waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, help spot the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins as they swim, play, and feed with the tide. See South Beach, Daufuskie Island, Grendier Shoals, Tybee Lighthouse, Haig Point Lighthouse, egrets, herons, pelicans, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the head waters of the Savannah River.
Dinner this evening is included at The Crazy Crab at Harbour Town with spectacular waterfront dining. The menu is derived from Lowcountry recipes and they have the best Crab Legs on Hilton Head. Enjoy live music during the summer, and a perfect view of breathtaking Lowcountry sunsets. (D)
Day 3 – Daufuskie Island & Guided Tour – Free Afternoon or Gullah Heritage Tour – Evening Sea Turtle Talk & Walk
This morning, ride the ferry to Daufuskie Island, tucked between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, and only accessible by boat. Discover the rustic beauty and undeveloped side of Daufuskie historic sites. Boat departs from Shelter Cove Marina and includes a guided tour on arrival. Dotting the island are historic sites, long beaches, and an inviting array of attractions, from the curious to the festive. Freeport Marina, just a stroll from the ferry’s Melrose Landing, is a lively spot for casual fare, a market and music on weekends. Enjoy lunch on your own while on the island.
Returning to Hilton Head Island this afternoon, enjoy free time on your own or add a Gullah Heritage Tour.
Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. Following dinner, enjoy a Sea Turtle Talk & Walk. An evening lecture and beach walk to educate participants about the threatened loggerhead sea turtle. Presentation given to entire group, then 2 groups of 10 proceed to the beach to examine the nesting habitat and nest sites. No guarantee of turtle sightings. (B,D)
Day 4 – Full Day in Savannah – Trolley Tour of Savannah with Hop on/Hop Off Privileges – Shopping in River Street – Pirate’s House Dinner
Today, you enjoy a full day in Savannah, GA. Start with day with a Guided Trolley Tour of Savannah. Hop aboard the trolley and friendly conductors will narrate the tour with a fascinating and fun mix of trivia and humorous stories. The extraordinary architecture, lush botanicals, and captivating stories of this historic, coastal city make for an unforgettable experience. You will also have Hop On/Hop Off privileges for the rest of the day.
You will also have free time to explore River Street, a glittering, multifaceted gem along the broad Savannah River. The century old buildings, once cotton warehouses, have been converted to antique shops, distinctive boutiques, spectacular galleries, quaint brew pubs, fabulous restaurants, unique nightspots, elegant inns and hotels. Bustling with welcoming hospitality, it’s also the place to see Savannah from the river that made her by taking a cruise or watching ships from around the globe sail into one of the busiest ports in America.
Dinner is included tonight at the Pirate’s House. Since 1753, The Pirate’s House has been welcoming visitors to Savannah with a bounty of delicious food and drink and rousing good times. Situated a scant block from the Savannah River, The Pirate’s House first opened as an inn for seafarers, and fast became a rendezvous for blood-thirsty pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas. Here seamen drank their grog and discoursed, sailor fashion, on their exotic high seas adventures from Singapore to Bombay and from London to Port Said. (B,D)
Day 5 – Beaufort, SC – Historic Beaufort Tour – The Chocolate Tree – Free Time Downtown – Island & Wild Horse Cruise – Low Country Boil Dinner
Spend the day in beautiful Beaufort, SC. Tucked into winding, historic streets framed by natural foliage and centuries-old, moss-draped live oak trees, Beaufort is more than a hidden Lowcountry gem—it’s a transformative destination that has charmed visitors since 1512. On arrival, enjoy a Guided Historic Beaufort Tour. Beaufort is a city filled with regal antebellum homes of pre-Revolutionary and pre-Civil War eras. It is also known for the major motion pictures that were made here including: “The Big Chill,” “The Great Santini, “Prince of Tides,” and “Forrest Gump.”
As Forrest says, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get!” Your group will visit the Chocolate Tree, a full-fledged chocolate and candy manufactory where customers are drawn inside by the luscious aroma which permeates the air. Windows into the production area allow visitors to see some of the more than 60 specialty chocolate delectables and other confections being made.
Next, enjoy free time downtown for lunch on your own and shopping. There are plenty of shops, galleries, boutiques and restaurants to explore.
The afternoon features an Islands & Horses of The Crystal Coast Cruise. This cruise travel goes up Taylor’s Creek past beautiful waterfront homes and the Rachel Carson Reserve. Cruise past other places such as Fort Macon, Pivers Island, and even past Shackleford Banks, where will have a chance to see the famous wild horses roaming the shore! During the cruise, be on the lookout for dolphins as they frolic in their natural habitat.
The evening’s highlight will be a “Low Country Boil” or as the locals refer to it “Beaufort Stew” and “Frogmore Stew.” Enjoy a delicious combination of boiled shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes before returning to Hilton Head Island for the night. (B,D)
Day 6 – Old Bluffton Tour – Free Time – Burnt Church Distillery Tour & Tasting – Coligny Beach or Coligny Plaza Shopping – One Hot Mama’s – Show at Arts Center of Coastal Carolina
Start the day in Old Town Bluffton – the Heart of the Low Country. Meet your local guide and see picturesque, oak-lined streets while learning about Bluffton’s history, architecture, and their cultural heritage. Your tour includes a stop at the Heyward House Museum and Welcome Center.
Enjoy free time for lunch on own and shopping downtown. Browse your way through a variety of unique shops, antique stores, and some great restaurants.
The afternoon features a tour and tasting at the Burnt Church Distillery, crafting authentic Lowcountry spirits. Learn about distilling and the rich history of their surroundings. You will be entertained with legends of folklore, ancient anecdotes, and one-of-a-kind spirits.
Returning to Hilton Head Island enjoy time at Coligny Beach. Those not interested in the beach can enjoy some shopping time at Coligny Plaza, which is located right next to Coligny Beach. The Plaza is home to more than 60 shops and restaurants.
After time to freshen-up at the hotel, enjoy dinner at One Hot Mama’s. Executive Chef Orchid Paulmeier is a Food Network Star, and brings her expertise in Southern BBQ straight to your table. From delicious baby-back ribs, authentic pit-to-plate BBQ, hand-cut steaks, char-grilled chicken, the world’s best wings, salads and more, it doesn’t get better than One Hot Mama’s!
End the day at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina for an evening of theatre. Experience Broadway-caliber musical, comedies, or dramas. (B,D)
